Emerging from the vibrant “underdog” music scene of Tucson, Arizona, Life Hoax is a post-hardcore three-piece that has quickly gained attention since forming in late 2024. The band brings together vocalist and songwriter Joshua Paynter (Milwaukee, WI), drummer Joshua Day (Cardiff, Wales, UK), and bassist Nicholas Laguna (Tucson, AZ).

Their sound draws on both the punk and hardcore resumé of it’s members, as well a wide gamut of influences. Listeners will find the raw force of Drug Church and Fugazi, the art-rock edge of Queens of the Stone Age, and the melodic pop sensibilities of Blink-182. The band expertly combines these into a well-balanced equation.

Their single “Quiet Lines” moves between post-hardcore and post-punk while confronting unspoken burdens and unresolved blame. “Bloodsuckers” delivers a pointed critique of the American healthcare industry, driven by raucous guitars, heavy drums, and surfy basslines. “Fixed Draw” channels the band’s namesake with an anthemic power-chord chorus featuring chants of “life is a hoax,” while its verses depict a reality in which truth and illusion can no longer be reconciled.

Though still early in the early-going, Life Hoax is already making an impact on stage. Their performances carry direct intensity, showing a clear commitment to delivering memorable shows and building a genuine connection with listeners.
