ABOUT
Emerging from the vibrant “underdog” Tucson music scene, Life Hoax is pushing post-hardcore forward with urgency and intent. Formed in early 2025, the three-piece has quickly gained attention within the local and regional music community. The band brings together vocalist and songwriter Joshua Paynter (Milwaukee, WI), drummer Joshua Day (Cardiff, Wales, UK), and bassist Nicholas Laguna (Tucson, AZ).
Life Hoax’s sound draws on the punk and hardcore résumé of its members while pulling from a wide range of influences. Listeners exploring Tucson music will hear the raw force of Drug Church and Fugazi, the art-rock edge of Queens of the Stone Age, and the melodic pop sensibilities of Blink-182. These elements are combined into a sharp, well-balanced equation that feels both familiar and confrontational.
Their single “Quiet Lines” moves between post-hardcore and post-punk, confronting unspoken burdens and unresolved blame. “Bloodsuckers” delivers a pointed critique of the American healthcare industry, driven by raucous guitars, heavy drums, and surf-leaning basslines. “Fixed Draw” channels the band’s namesake with an anthemic power-chord chorus built around chants of “life is a hoax,” while its verses depict a reality where truth and illusion can no longer be reconciled.
Though still early in the early-going, Life Hoax is already making an impact within the Tucson band ecosystem. Their live shows carry a direct, unfiltered intensity, reflecting a clear commitment to memorable performances and a genuine connection with listeners in the Arizona music network and beyond.
